Claims Adjuster

What makes a great claims adjuster?

Claims adjusters work for an insurance carrier and are responsible for estimating the cost of damage for the customer after an event has occurred, such as a car accident or a tornado. Along with the clients insurance agent, they serve as the first responders. Claims adjusters perform the initial investigation of the facts surrounding a claim, determine if and what coverage applies to the incident and recommend payment to the client. Claims personnel also need to know standard claim settlement policies, procedures and statutory or regulatory requirements.

Education:

High school degree a must, Associates or Bachelors degree preferred. Many insurance companies provide training on appraising property and accident reconstruction.  In some states, claim adjusters are licensed and may be subject to continuing education requirements.

Salary:

Based on U.S. Department of Labor the average claims adjuster makes over $65,000 annually.  Of course this varies by where you live, your work experience and how much passion you bring to your job!
