Bob Baxter Honorary Scholarship Recipient

East Hartford High School, CT

Even with a very busy schedule, Michelle decided to get involved with the InVEST program after accepting an internship at Travelers. She became the first student at East Hartford to take the courses as an independent study – with encouragement from her InVEST teacher and her manager at work.

The program went so well that she decided to speak about her teacher and her student experience at an InVEST board of directors meeting. Michelle’s presentation was then passed on to Ohio Governor John Kasich’s office where they expressed interest in using InVEST for other Ohio schools.

Michelle’s internship also enabled her to travel to the Connecticut Agent’s Convention to network with insurance executives and promote Travelers’ InVEST Job Shadow program as an alumnus. She also attended the Big “I” Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. this past spring where she had the chance to participate in meetings and assist with a silent auction to raise money for InVEST’s scholarship fund.

“InVEST taught me a lot about the insurance industry and a plethora of career options, and I plan to give something back to my community,” Michelle said.
