At Sacopee Valley High School (Maine), I planned on going into the healthcare field. My teacher - Dorothy Neal-Maxwell - suggested I take an Invest class. I liked it and learned a lot.
A friend working at Commercial Union Insurance offered me a job there right out of high school – and I thought I might stay for one or two semesters, but I'm still enjoying my insurance job over 25 years later.
My roles have included date entry, assistant to an adjuster, and work in auto insurance. After three years, I became a claims processor handling collision loss; then a worker's compensation adjuster handling medical claims. My time as an EMT ambulance volunteer was very helpful with this work.
After several years in property claims, I moved into personal lines and then trained to become an underwriter. I also went back to school to earn a Business degree.
Chalmers Insurance Group later hired me to run three of their offices and I became a Personal Lines Manager for a team of 30 employees. It's a “family-owned" company and I'm so proud to be working there. We even get involved in community service projects.
I also volunteer with 'Maine Insurance Agents' and I'm on the 'New Hampshire Insurance Agents' Board of Directors promoting our industry, insurance careers and Project Invest.
We're working hard to promote this business to the next generation, and Chalmers has hired nine Invest interns over the last ten years.
