After taking an Invest class with Linda Bruno at Dryden High School (NY), she helped me get a part-time internship at Dryden Mutual Insurance Company -- a place where I still work today.
I didn't plan on an insurance career, but each opportunity at Dryden has taken me to the next level. I started in the mailroom and moved into policy service / data entry. After taking numerous insurance classes, I became an underwriter -- staying in that position for over 12 years.
When my company decided to implement a new computer system, the IT department recruited me for my underwriting and business analyst skills. Learning all about technology and program development while on the job, I was able to help them install all the new software.
I really enjoyed the work and decided to stay with IT -- which eventually led me to my current job as an Information Systems Supervisor.
I also started giving presentations to Invest classes at three local high schools, where I talk about my journey in the insurance business. I like emphasizing all the interesting careers students can pursue.
During the 2020 pandemic, IT helped most of our colleagues transition to a 'work-from-home' environment. It's amazing how quickly we went remote and our customers didn't even realize it. We were able to continue the high level of service they've come to expect from us.
