I took the Invest class at Dryden High School (NY) twice with Linda Bruno. She was a great teacher, and I enjoyed the way she presented real-world business scenarios to us on a regular basis.
That summer, she helped me get an internship at Dryden Mutual Insurance Company, where I spent several semesters interacting with different departments. They eventually offered me a full-time job -- sorting mail at first and then identifying and entering policy information as a data processor.
I enjoyed working there and learned a lot about the insurance business -- developing a special interest in claims. I liked the investigative part of the job.
I decided to study business and insurance, and Dryden Mutual even helped me pay for college. I saw it as a long-term career opportunity in a secure industry.
After being promoted to Claims Representative, I'm now working towards becoming an accounting administrator. I've been here since I was 16 years old, and I'm so happy I stayed.
Local Invest classes often visit Dryden for a presentation on the insurance industry. The students“shadow" us while we work and we tell them about all the terrific benefits of working in this business.
Many show an interest and start exploring career opportunities in insurance after they leave our office. They realize that people will always need insurance.
