Discover the side of insurance that most people never hear about while competing for cash prizes. Through interactive learning, industry videos, and conversations with insurance professionals, you’ll discover how the Surplus Lines market, also known as Excess and Surplus Lines (E&S), helps solve unique and complex risks that don’t fit into the standard insurance market. Along the way, you’ll gain valuable industry knowledge, expand your professional network, and learn about exciting career opportunities across this dynamic and growing segment of the insurance industry.

Build your understanding of the surplus lines market. There will be a few online quizzes and activities along the way. - Watch the Surplus Lines 3-Part Mini Video Series
Learn more about Surplus Lines and a few key careers. There will be a few reflection questions along the way. - Interview Surplus Lines Professionals
Sign up to participate in a 30-minute group call with your peers and 1 to 2 Surplus Lines Professional. You will be provided with key questions to help guide you in your conversation. Interviews will take place throughout the month of July. - Submit a Final Reflection by August 14, 2026
Share what you learned about Surplus Lines including your interview with a Surplus Lines Professional and how the experience expanded your understanding of the insurance industry and insurance careers. - NOTE: Your reflection should be based on your own learning and interview experience. Generic or AI-generated responses that do not reference specific details from the videos, coursework and professional interview may not be eligible for prizes.

NOTE – the Surplus Lines course completed during this challenge may also count toward the course requirements for 2027 Invest Scholarship Eligibility.
This challenge is open to all high school students within the United States.
To be eligible for prizes, participants must:
- Complete the Surplus Lines online chapter and all associated quizzes and activities
- Watch all three Surplus Lines mini video sessions
- Complete all required reflection questions
- Participate in a scheduled interview with a surplus lines professional
- Submit a final reflection by Friday, August 14, 2026
Only one submission per student will be accepted. All submissions must be the participant’s original work and reflect their own learning and interview experience. Generic or AI-generated responses that do not reference specific details from the coursework, video series, and professional interview may not be eligible for prizes.
Prize winners will be selected based on successful completion of the challenge requirements and the quality and thoughtfulness of their final reflection.
Winners will be announced on or before Friday, August 21.

• $250 cash awards will be presented to ten students for outstanding performance in the challenge.
• $50 gift cards may be awarded to up to 50 additional students who successfully complete all challenge requirements.
