What's the greatest benefit of volunteering in the InVEST classroom?

Getting to know the students and sharing my insurance knowledge in hopes of encouraging them to join the industry. Developing new talent is critical. And serving as an InVEST volunteer is an excellent way for us to get into the schools to educate students.

Tell us about a time you really made a difference in the life of an InVEST student.

A student expressed an interest in interning at our agency for two weeks and worked in our Personal Lines department assisting our agents, He learned how to quote in SetWrite, how to generate policy change requests in AMS360, and how to make endorsement changes on carrier websites. When the internship ended, I offered him a summer job because I saw a lot of potential and he was passionate about industry. He stills works for us and is now interested in pursuing insurance as a career and continuing his education at USM's Insurance & Risk Management Program. I also connected him with scholarship program decision-makers.

While working at our agency, he saved enough money to go on a class trip to London the first overseas trip for a small-town guy. I was so happy for him. Our paths crossed only because of my participation as an InVEST volunteer.

Any other InVEST students that stand out?

Several of our employees have been with our agency for 10 years all graduates from Sacopee Valley High School. We have benefited tremendously from InVEST and I'm happy to do my part in giving back to this worthy program so we can educate the next generation of insurance professionals.
