While Danielle was making her college decision, she wanted to stay close to home..
“InVEST is one of the main reasons I stayed in St. Petersburg because I had so many great connections with insurance firms in the area that I didn't want to lose if I was away at school,” she explains.
Danielle enrolled in InVEST at St. Petersburg Catholic High School because she heard how “awesome” it was from graduates who had already gone through the program.
During the mock agency simulation portion of the InVEST class, students break into small groups to form their own insurance agencies and compete against fellow classmates to sell mock insurance policies. They must create their agency brand, including a name, logo and tagline, apply for and execute various job roles, and learn how to process insurance applications using ACORD forms and EZLynx rating software donated to InVEST schools.
“I joined InVEST because I knew it was a hands-on class that let you collaborate with classmates on creating your own agency,” Danielle says. “The best part was learning leadership skills by being a manager and then becoming InVEST president in my senior year. I also learned fundamental insurance knowledge that most people my age don't even know about “
And what she gained through InVEST is already paying off. After finishing her first year of college at the University of South Florida, Danielle worked part time at an insurance agency she visited while on an InVEST field trip.
“Because of InVEST I'm working at an amazing homeowner’s insurance company. I called my former InVEST teacher to network and get job suggestions,”Danielle says. “My teacher connected me with an InVEST volunteer at ASI and they accepted me over the phone, because I told them I graduated from InVEST. I couldn't have been more impressed with how well rounded the InVEST program is. My agency loves it and we have many alumni here because of it.”
